Cross breaks

Cross breaks are a cost effective method for strengthening a thin piece of sheet metal. Typically, this is done in an X shape, however two lines crossing at most angles will add strength.  

To add a cross break to your design

1. Enter the Bend tool. 

2. In the Options panelArea of the user interface that enables you to modify functions specific to tools., click  CreateCross Break.

3. Select Cutter PointSingle location in the sketch grid. 2-D object that has no height, width, or length. The origin, an axis, and a vertex are examples of points. Use the Point tool to sketch a point on the sketch grid. Points are useful as a dimensional reference, for splitting, and for creating a point on a line or curve through which you want to draw a three-point circle. is the default tool guide. When you mouse over an edge, you see a preview of the bend line and its location. Click anywhere along the edge to place a bend line perpendicular to the edge across the entire face.

4. The Select Two Cutter Points tool guide lets you select both bend line endpoints to produce different angles.

5. Click Complete once you have created two crossing bend lines.

6. SpaceClaim shows the cross break as triangular shaded areas on the face.
