Filtering your selection

Click the Selection FilterSee Selection filter in the status bar to open the filter options. The options are:

• Smart
• All
  • Bodies
  • Faces
  • Edges
  • Sketch Curves
  • Annotations
    • Notes
    • DimensionsValues or expressions you enter for precise control during the creation or modification of a design. You can dimension every element, from lines in sketches to faces of solids. See Ordinate dimensions, Progressive dimensions, Ruler dimension.

The Smart option is enabled by default and whenever you switch to another tool.

When Smart is Checked, all filters are checked and cannot be unchecked. Within the defined area, only the highest checked item in the filter list will be selected. This differs between Design2D or 3D model that contains at least one top-level component. Windows and Drawing Windows as follows.

• In a Design2D or 3D model that contains at least one top-level component. Window: BodyA solid or surface., FaceSide or other surface of a solid. Some examples are the inside surface of a hole or the six sides of a rectangular solid. See Surface., Edge3D object composed of a single outside boundary of a feature. A line sketched in 2D becomes an edge when you pull your sketch into 3D., Sketch CurveIn 3D, any line in space., AnnotationInformation you can add to a drawing, such as notes, dimensions, geometric tolerances, center marks, and Bills of Materials., PlaneConstruction geometry consisting of a flat surface. Uncheck Smart to select all object types checked in the filter list. The images below show that all items are selected in the Design2D or 3D model that contains at least one top-level component. Window when Smart is Unchecked.

All is a shortcut for Checking/Unchecking all of the filter items.

When you switch to another tool, the filter selections are remembered but the Smart option is checked. If you uncheck the Smart option, the previously checked options remain checked and the previously unchecked options are unchecked.

• Automatic selects faces and connected hidden faces
• Visible selects visible faces only
• Through selects visible and hidden faces
