Hems

The following table shows the available Hem types.

Hems can be created in two basic ways.

• Applied to a selected edge
• Pulling a selected edge

If you move a wall with a hem, the hem moves with the wall.

Click the Hems option in the Highlight group to highlight all the hems in your sheet metal design.

To create a hem using the Hem tool

1. Select an edge
   • You can only create Hems on straight edges that have squared straight thickness edges.
   • You can not create hems on non-thickness edges, such as those created with chamfers.

2. Choose a Hem type from the Hem tool dropdown list

3. The Hem is created

   • Simple hems are offset by one wall thickness.

To create a hem using the Pull tool

1. Use the Hem   tool dropdown menu to set the default Hem type

2. Enter the PullTool used to distort or deform geometry. Use the Pull tool to offset, extrude, revolve, sweep, draft, and blend faces; or to round, chamfer, or extrude edges. When converting a sketch to 3D, pulling a line creates a surface and pulling a surface creates a solid. tool

3. Select an edge
4. Choose the inline Pull arrow (not the arrow at 90 degrees from the face)
5. Choose Joggle or Hem from the mini-toolbar
6. Pull back over the face to create the Hem

To create a partial edge Hem

1. Use the Hem   tool dropdown menu to set the default Hem type
2. Enter the Pull tool
3. Select an edge
4. Drag the edge end handles (yellow balls) to size the length of the Hem
5. Choose the inline Pull arrow (not the arrow at 90 degrees from the face)
6. Choose Joggle or Hem from the mini-toolbar
7. Pull back over the face to create the Hem

To create a multiedged Hem

1. Use the Hem   tool dropdown menu to set the default Hem type
2. Enter the Pull tool
3. Double-click an edge to select an entire edge chain
4. Choose the inline Pull arrow (not the arrow at 90 degrees from the face)
5. Choose Joggle or Hem from the mini-toolbar
6. Pull back over the face to create the Hem

To create a hem using the Move tool

1. Enter the MoveA tool used to translate or rotate geometry. tool

2. Select the inside wall of the bend.

   Turn the mouse wheel to select a face that is hidden by another face, if necessary.

3. RotateDesign: Using the Rotate tool to spin a design 90 degrees in the plane of the screen. You can rotate your design clockwise or counterclockwise. Object: Using the Move handle to spin an object around an axis. the wall back on its neighboring face, as shown below.

   A 0.0001 mm gap is created automatically.

To modify a hem

1. Select one or more hems.
2. Select an option from the Hem tool.

   You can also select a hem type from the mini-toolbar or modify the Hem Type in the Sheet Metal section in the Properties panelArea of the user interface that displays editable details about the selected object(s). This panel is initially displayed on the lower left side of the screen, but can be moved.. Depending which hem type you select, you can modify the Length, Height, Gap, and Diameter values.

   With a hem selected, you can also modify the hem’s Inner Radius, Bend Steps, Bend Allowance (BA) and Bend Deduction (BD) parameters in the Sheet Metal section of the Properties panel. When you change a hem’s BA, the BD parameter also automatically updates, depending on the hem’s other parameters, such as Inner Radius, Height, or Angle.

   With a hem selected, you can also modify the hem’s Inner Radius, Bend Steps, Bend Allowance (BA) and Bend Deduction (BD) parameters in the Sheet Metal section of the Properties panel. When you change a hem’s BA, the BD parameter also automatically updates, depending on the hem’s other parameters, such as Inner Radius, Height, or Angle.

To remove a hem

To remove a hem object but leave the geometry

1. Select the hem.

2. Select  None from the Hem tool in the Modify group on the Sheet Metal tab or from the mini-toolbar.

   The hem object is removed. Highlighting Hems no longer highlights the object. The geometry remains and can now be manipulated.

   To remove a hem, you can also select FillUse the Fill tool to simplify or clean up geometry by extending surrounding faces to eliminate a selection. The selected region is filled in or healed with the surrounding surface or solid. from the Edit group in the Design2D or 3D model that contains at least one top-level component. tab, or right-click and select Delete from the context menu.
